Medical Stays in Toronto: What You Need to Know

July 20, 2024

If you are traveling for medical treatment – it can be a stressful experience.

Unlike traveling for a vacation, when you travel for medical stays in Toronto you may need to stay for awhile and you may be in some state of discomfort. This is why having a comfortable place to say is so important.

The short term, furnished apartments at The Livmore provide a convenient environment where you can rest and feel at home – which will help aid you in your recovery during medical stays in Toronto.

Toronto’s Medical System

Canada has a publicly funded, private provided healthcare system. Public Health Insurance is handled at a provincial level and when you go to see a doctor, it is covered by the taxes you pay.

This health-care system has an excellent reputation around the world and many international tourists visit to seek out treatment in high quality private clinics. In addition to the many robust public health facilities in Toronto, there are also a collection of high end clinics that offer treatment from doctors and specialist staff. (Here’s a guide to the best and worst hospitals in Toronto, from local website blogTO.)

Whether you’re coming to Toronto for a necessary operation, an examination or a cosmetic procedure, you’ll find the medical care in this city top notch.

Priorities for Your Medical Stay

When it comes to planning for a medical-related trip to Toronto, the following considerations will need your attention:

Cutting Down on Expenses

Medical treatments are a large expense, so anything you can do to save money in other departments is desirable. A short term rental offers better value compared to a hotel, so you can cut costs here.

Cooking For Yourself

When you are recovering from a surgery or an illness, you might need to adjust your diet. Also, you might not feel like dining out in a restaurant every night. Having your own kitchen allows you to prepare the food that suits your needs – in the privacy of your home away from home.

A Home-Like Atmosphere

It’s hard to relax fully in a hotel room, as it doesn’t give you the feeling of being at home.

Longer-Term Stay Options

Chances are, if you are visiting Toronto for medical reasons, you might need to stay for awhile as you recover. Furnished apartments offer longer term rental options, so you can take your time.

Necessary Medications

Make sure that you have a prescription for all medications that you will need to carry you through the duration of your stay – including painkillers and antibiotics. If you need to stock up, there are many pharmacies located nearby in downtown Toronto.

Friends and Family

Recovering from an operation or an illness is much easier when you have loved ones around to support you. Staying in a furnished apartment with multiple bedrooms allows you to bring companions along who can assist.

Elevate Your Extended Stay from Hotel Stays: Discover Furnished Apartments in Toronto

July 17, 2024
furnished rentals

Out with the uncomfortable and in with the unforgettable. It’s time to reconsider your accommodation choices and move beyond the standard hotels.

Recent reports of Airbnb scams and hidden hotel fees have made these options less appealing, with some travellers falling victim to misleading listings and unexpected charges. Moreover, hotels often come with limited space and high costs, while Airbnbs can lack consistency in quality and amenities.

Why not opt for a more comfortable and reliable alternative? Furnished rentals, like those offered by DelSuites, provide a luxurious home away from home experience.

Enjoy the comforts of home combined with the convenience and luxury of a high-end stay, all while avoiding the pitfalls of traditional accommodations. Make your next trip to Toronto truly memorable by choosing a furnished rental that meets all your needs and exceeds your expectations.

Here’s everything you need to know about the joys of a luxurious rental stay!

Benefits of Staying in a Furnished Rental

Where you stay can make all the difference when planning a trip. Furnished rentals offer a wide range of benefits that can enhance your travel experience, making them a smart choice over conventional hotels.

  • Comfort and Space: Furnished rentals provide the comfort of a home with separate living areas, bedrooms, and fully equipped kitchens. Unlike cramped hotel rooms, these rentals offer ample space to relax and unwind, making them ideal for longer business stays or when travelling with family.
  • Cost-Effective: While hotels can be pricey (especially when factoring in meals and amenities), furnished rentals often include everything you need at a more affordable rate. You can save money by cooking your own meals and enjoying the conveniences of a home-like setting without additional charges.
  • Consistency and Quality: Furnished rentals ensure a high standard of cleanliness, comfort, and reliability. You know what to expect every time you book.
  • Amenities Included: Furnished rentals often come with a range of amenities. These all-inclusive options provide added convenience and value, allowing you to settle in quickly and comfortably.
  • Privacy and Independence: Enjoy the privacy of your own space without the interruptions common in hotels. With a furnished rental, you have the freedom to come and go as you please, entertain guests, and live more like a local.
  • Ideal Locations: Many furnished rentals are located in residential neighbourhoods, offering a more authentic experience of the city. You can explore local shops, cafes, and parks, getting a true feel for the area while being close to major attractions.

Furnished rentals let you live within a thriving community – with the space, amenities, and quality you need for a stress-free and enjoyable stay.

Top 5 Favourite Bars for Craft Beer in Toronto

July 7, 2024

Craft beer is big business in Toronto. According to the Ontario Craft Brewers Association, “there are currently over 100 craft breweries in Ontario employing over 1,000 people in direct brewery jobs across the province. This represents over 30 per cent of the direct brewery jobs in Ontario.”

Now that grocery stores will now have the opportunity to sell beer and wine, this will not replace your visit to your local bar to taste test brews. If you don’t want to stay in your furnished suite or apartment to drink, here are our favourite places in Toronto for this niche experience.

1. Bellwoods Brewery. The popular indie brewery on Ossington Ave–with its white picket fence and prime people-watching patio– is listed as one of the 100 best breweries in the world by Rate Beer. Sip and savour on IPAs, stouts, single hop series, Belgian saisons, and a variety of ales. There’s a good selection of charcuterie to nibble alongside your pints. The brewery is dealing with its line-ups with a next door bottle shop (you’ll also want to save those beautiful labels for your home collection) and are opening a new location at Dupont and Dovercourt. Currently, you can quench your thirst by participating in a spring guided tasting.

2. Bar Volo. Bar Volo is the craft beer bar that was ahead of the trend and now 25 years old. It’s a great centralCraft Beer in Toronto location if you are living in our downtown toronto apartments or North Toronto. The dim-lit, intimate, wooden space gets crowded early. It’s a casual process: look at the list on the walls for over 30 rotating regional beers on tap, casks, more than 75 international types of bottles, and a hectolitre nano brewery. You then find your own table, and order/pay at the bar. Though known for beer, there are two VQA wines served on tap, and over 60 bottles of bourbon and rye for non-hopheads. In the summer, there are DJ nights and during those times, cans of Howe Sound Lager is available for $5 (as previously stated on their site, last year).

3. Bar Hop. Located a short walk away from our 300 Front, Icon, and Element locations, Bar Hop is the ideal unpretentious after-work spot on King West. The bar has over 36 rotating taps plus tap takeovers, gluten-free beers and ciders, aCraft Beer in Torontond two casks. Special deals like Sunday Sessions ($5 for select craft beers); Mussel Mondays (2 pounds of mussels and fries for $9.95); and Buck-a-Shuck Tuesdays ($1 Oysters) make this a bustling place. Fret-not, a second location is in the works around Richmond and Peter.

4. Indie Ale House. If there is one reason to head over to the Junction, it’s for its noteworthy brewery. There’s a variety of beers here, including their speciality of bold ales. Peruse their menu for collaborations and their original brews with fun flavours and names like the Broken Hipster, Zombie Apocalypse, and the Breakfast Porter. Add a flavourful, varied menu of healthy options and bar staples with a twist; tours, and tastings, and you’ll never want to leave (unless you go here first and then dance the night away at 3030 down the street).

5. Amsterdam Brewery. Though it now feels like a tourist attraction due to its Harbourfront location, Amsterdam Brewery has bCraft Beer in Torontoeen in Toronto since 1986 and come a long way from its first location on John St. Now the brewery is a short walk away from our downtown toronto apartments. Amsterdam Brewery is known for its Boneshaker unfiltered IPA and has other original brews like the Sweetwater Squeeze Radler, the 416, and the all natural Blonde. Sip lakeside on a muskoka chair with an unparalleled view of Lake Ontario and the Toronto Islands. A bonus if you can’t grab a seat on the patio is that you can grab your favourite beer from their bottle shop, which is open 7 days a week until 11pm.

Honorable mentions go to some of Toronto’s newer breweries like the soon-to-open Left Field Brewery (which is hosting tastings and pop-ups to buy select bottles from time to time); East York’s new Muddy York brewery; and the established Granite Brewery at Eglinton and Mount Pleasant.

Top 5 Places To See on Toronto’s Waterfront This Summer

July 3, 2024
Toronto waterfront

Is Toronto your summer destination? Great choice. It’s where urban buzz meets tranquil Lake Ontario.

As the fourth-largest city in North America, Toronto boasts a wide variety of attractions and activities to keep you entertained. And after immersing yourself in the city’s hidden gems, it’s time to turn your attention to the shimmering expanse of the Toronto waterfront.

DelSuites already ensures that your stay exceeds expectations, so all that’s left for you to do is dive into the waterfront experience. Whether you’re craving cultural festivals, serene parks, exciting water sports, or panoramic views of the skyline, Toronto’s waterfront is sure to deliver.

So, cross that bucket list off, grab your shades, and get ready to make a splash in one of the city’s most vibrant and dynamic areas.

What’s the Toronto Waterfront?

For those not familiar, the Toronto waterfront is essentially a stretch of land along Lake Ontario’s shoreline. It’s a diverse area that combines natural beauty with urban development.

Historically, this waterfront played a crucial role in Toronto’s growth as a major port city. However, over the years, it has evolved into a multifunctional area that offers a range of activities and experiences for both locals and visitors.

Today, Toronto’s waterfront is known for its recreational opportunities. You can find parks, trails, and beaches where people enjoy walking, cycling, picnicking, or simply relaxing by the water. It’s also a hub for cultural events, festivals, and outdoor concerts, attracting people from all over the city.

In recent years, there have been ongoing extensive revitalization efforts aimed at enhancing the waterfront’s appeal. This has led to the development of new public spaces, waterfront promenades, and mixed-use areas that incorporate residential, commercial, and recreational elements.

The waterfront is a place where you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city while still being in the heart of it all – making it a must-see when you’re around town.

Summer Must-Sees on Toronto’s Waterfront

Toronto’s waterfront is the beating heart of summer in the city, so you don’t want to miss it. Check out these top attractions to make your trip unforgettable.

Leslie Street Spit

Let’s start down the natural route. Tucked away in Toronto’s east end, the Leslie Street Spit, better known as Tommy Thompson Park, is a hidden gem waiting to be explored. Stretching five kilometres into Lake Ontario, this man-made peninsula boasts a unique blend of urban wilderness and vital wildlife habitat.

As one of the largest wildlife habitats along the waterfront, Tommy Thompson Park supports diverse bird and butterfly species. Its expansive 250-hectare area provides a sanctuary for these creatures amidst the bustling cityscape.

But it’s not just the wildlife that draws visitors. The park itself offers an unparalleled outdoor experience, inviting adventurers to wander its trails, cycle its paths, or simply take in the panoramic views of the lake and skyline.

Managed by the Toronto Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) in collaboration with the City of Toronto, the park makes sure that this natural haven remains accessible to all.

Travel pro-tip: Bring binoculars and a camera. There are many bird species in the park, making birdwatching and photography a real treat. Stunning views of Lake Ontario and the Toronto skyline also make for picturesque moments.

Canada’s Sugar Beach

Canada’s Sugar Beach is a beachfront spot nestled along Toronto’s waterfront, and it’s not hard to see why it’s a favourite among locals and visitors alike.

What sets Canada’s Sugar Beach apart is its whimsical ambiance, famous for its signature pink umbrellas and bright yellow beach chairs. It’s a picture-perfect spot for lounging, soaking up the sun, and enjoying Lake Ontario’s scenic beauty.

But there’s more to Sugar Beach than meets the eye. Situated in the East Bayfront neighbourhood, the beach is also part of the city’s revitalization efforts. This transforms former industrial lands into vibrant public spaces.

Even though Toronto is not a typical beach destination, its shoreline is lined with stunning sandy beaches, each with its own charm.

Travel pro-tip: Arrive early to get a prime spot under one of the iconic pink umbrellas – especially on weekends and during peak summer months. And don’t forget your sunscreen and a good book to fully enjoy your time in the sun.

Sherbourne Common

With its combination of recreation, sustainability, and modern design, Sherbourne Common is redefining Toronto’s waterfront. This multi-purpose park isn’t your average green space, either. It’s even named one of the world’s best new parks.

Sherbourne Common is a dynamic destination that seamlessly integrates art, nature, and community. The park’s cleverly designed water channel not only adds visual flair but also doubles as a stormwater treatment facility, contributing to the city’s sustainability efforts.

Take a leisurely stroll along the waterfront promenade, enjoy a picnic in the park, or let the kids play on the splash pad; there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Its central location also makes it easily accessible from other waterfront attractions and downtown Toronto.

Travel pro-tip: Bring a reusable water bottle and refill it at one of the park’s water fountains. It’s a small but meaningful way to reduce plastic waste and contribute to the park’s sustainability efforts.

Music Garden

The Toronto Music Garden is a ‘harmonious’ blend of nature and artistry. Designed in collaboration with world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma and landscape designer Julie Moir Messervy, this botanical garden shows off the transformative power of music and nature.

Inspired by Bach’s Suite No. 1 in G Major for Unaccompanied Cello, the Music Garden is divided into six sections, each representing a different movement of the suite. As you wander through the garden, you’ll encounter a symphony of flowers, trees, and pathways that evoke the rhythm and emotion of Bach’s masterpiece.

Visitors can attend free concerts and performances held throughout the summer, ranging from classical recitals to multicultural celebrations. It’s a vibrant area for cultural exchange and artistic expression that brings people together through the universal language of music.

Travel pro-tip: One of the highlights of visiting the Music Garden is experiencing the garden at different times of the day. No matter what time of day it is, each moment offers a unique perspective on this botanical harmony.

Harbourfront Centre

One of the most popular destinations on Toronto’s waterfront is the Harbourfront Centre. With a lineup that includes concerts, theatre performances, dance shows, and art exhibitions, there’s always something exciting happening.

The addition of three public spaces – Ontario Square, Canada Square, and Exhibition Common – has expanded the venue’s capacity for outdoor activities, making it an even more appealing summer destination.

Beyond the arts, the Harbourfront Centre also provides numerous ways to enjoy the water. The Harbourfront Canoe & Kayak Centre has all kinds of paddling options, including kayaking, tandem kayak tours, canoeing, big voyageur canoe excursions, stand-up paddleboarding, and evening social paddles. These activities bring an interesting perspective on the city and a chance to connect with nature right from the city.

Travel pro-tip: Check the event calendar ahead of time and plan your visit around one of their many festivals or performances to make the most of your experience.
